Sumith worked for many years as an Assessor at the Sri Lanka Insurance
Corporation. It was work he thoroughly enjoyed. His colleagues during that time included C.H.Seneviratne and Charlie Corea.
Prior to its privatization, SLICL was fully owned by the government.In February 1993, Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka (ICSL) was converted into a limited liability
company under the Conversion of Public Corporations or Government owned Business Undertakings into Public Companies Act No
23 of 1987. Upon converting to a limited liability company, ICSL changed its name to Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation Ltd (SLICL).
The company under takes both life and general insurance using agents, 14 regional
offices and 75 branch offices and one overseas branch (in Republic of Maldives)
